Hendrick Doncker (1626-1699) was a book seller, instrument maker, hydrographer and publisher based in Amsterdam and active during the mid-17th century. He was perhaps most famous for his publication of sea charts and nautical atlases, which he produced based on his own work, rather than copying them from earlier cartographers. His unique publications were also known for their accuracy as he often supplemented and revised his maps with the latest discoveries. Doncker also collaborated with Pieter Goos and Anthonie Jacobsz to produce the 'De Zeespiegal' pilot atlas. Upon his death, his map plates were acquired by Johanned Van Keulen. This is a beautiful example of his unique work.
