The letter copied here concerns the results of New York's statewide elections of 1838. Dated November 22, 1838, this letter was signed by a committee on behalf of Whigs consisting of William Bonham, Jahn C. Hayt, Oliver Rouse, J.B. Pratt, Henry B. Noyes, and Thomas A. Johnson. These gentlemen fear the Whig party's underperformance in the election warrants investigation. Whig leader William H. Seward won his first governorship during this election.
