William Westall was an English landscape artist and member of the Royal Academy. He was as one of the first British artists to visit and depict Australia. The Victorian Gothic style of the house was the work of Alfred Waterhouse, who had also built the Natural History Museum in London. It had 150 bedrooms, massive stables, huge kennels and a chapel with a 183 ft tower. it was torn down in 1961.
