This composite map of the West. Beautifully colored with impressive detail throughout. The map locates more than 130 forts, marked with flag notations, nearly 70 Indian reservations, the routes of many explorers, railroads with their land grants, and dozens of Spanish land grants noted. The map provides in fine detail a composite report showing the areas surveyed under the direction of George Wheeler in the south, Clarence King in the north and the swaths of land given to the Northern Pacific, Southern Pacific and Union Pacific. Survey details plotted include base lines, meridians and townships. Wheeler's surveying efforts are shown as shaded regions. Published in the final report of the Wheeler Survey.
