This is the first maps to name r Janairo and depicts Terra Australis as a sub-tropical land connected to New Guinee. Letterpress title is missing, expert repairs to worm holes in upper margin, trimmed to neat line in upper margins. State 1, Burden 46. Andre Thevet (1502-1590) was a Franciscan monk, explorer and cosmographer who went to Brazil in 1555 which earned him the title of Royal Cosmographer from Henry III (the King of France). Hard to find.
