Item #283638 Typed Letters Signed (Two). Rowland BARING, 2nd Earl of Cromer, 1877 - 1953.

Typed Letters Signed (Two)

London: 1926.

An interesting pair of T.L.S.'s to acclaimed music critic Herman Klein, inviting him to attend a Garden Party for their Majesties' The King and Queen of England at Buckingham Palace. First letter: 8vo. 1 page, Lord Chamberlain's Office, St. James Palace, July 6, 1926, in part: "...I have not forgotten my promise, and will with pleasure include the names of Mrs. Klein and yourself in the list I am submitting..." Second letter: 4to. 1 page, Lord Chamberlain's Office, St. James Palace, July 6, 1926, in part: "... Amongst the large number of people who attend their Majesties' Garden Party you will, I know, appreciate that it is not always possible to single out any people in particular for presentation to the King, as their Majesties' circulate freely among their guests and it is often a matter of chance as to who they come across. Should an opportunity occur for my presenting you the King during the afternoon, I shall be pleased to do so, but as I explained it is no easy matter for such things to be pre-arranged owing to the informality of the proceedings..." Both letters are signed with the more "familiar" title "Cromer." Both letters are boldly signed and are in fine condition.

British diplomat and courtier who served as Lord Chamberlain of the Household from 1922 - 1937.
