Autograph Letter Signed

Winchfield: 1860.

A.L.S. "C. Kingsley", 8vo. 1 page, black-bordered stationary, Chersley Rectory, Winchfield, December 23, 1860, A letter accepting an invitation from Lady Ashburton, in full: "Mrs. Kingsley and I shall have the great pleasure in accepting your kind invitation for the 15th, if you think it worth while to allow us to come out for a couple of nights. We are just returning from Cambridge, and our short stay here requires us to be at the house as much as possible." Evenly toned and mounted to another page. Minor chipping at the top margins. Despite its flaws, this is an incredibly easy letter to read by Kingsley who has signed his name in the text and again at the conclusion.

English Reverend and Christian Socialist best remembered for forming labour cooperatives that failed, but led to the working reforms of the progressive era.
