Item #283334 Autographed response to a question. George Bernard SHAW, 1856 - 1950.

Autographed response to a question.

Fine content autograph response (unsigned) to a typed questionnaire regarding Divorce, 4to. 1 page no place, no date, c.a 1920's. In full: QUESTION: "According to statistics recently issued by the Divorce Court there are four times as many husbands seeking to be separated as there are wives anxious to be divorced from their husbands. Do you consider this an indication that married men are more moral than woman?" RESPONSE: "Why should I? It may mean on the face of it that there are four hundred times as many adulteresses as adulators. It may mean those women are 400 times as forgiving as men. It may mean that they are 400 times as helpless in the economic bonds of marriage. In short, taken by itself, it means nothing at all except that there are 400 times as many husbands seeking to be separated as there are wives anxious to be divorced. And it probably doesn't mean that." Mailing folds as expected with tiny staple hole at top right-hand margin.
