Obsucre set of maps on thin paper, that illustrate a U.S. Naval expedition by Gilliss to the Southern Hemisphere 1849-1852. In good condition. Some chips and small tears to edges, each map shows some staining and foxing. Navy lieutenant and astronomer James Melville Gilliss (1881-1865) went to study the natural and social history of the Republic of Chile.
