Rare Bellin map of Buenos Aires, Argentina in the 18th century. Plan shown in blocks labeled with important city sections including the Eglise Cathedral, the House of the Jesuits, and the Convent of St. Francis. La Plata River is shown on the right and a beautiful cartouche is in the upper left corner. Jacques Nicolas Bellin (1703-1772) was the official hydrographer to the French king and the first person to hold the title of "Ingénieur de la Marine of the Depot des cartes et plans de la Marine" (chief engineer of the French Hydrographical Office).
