Beautiful allegorical celestial map. The positions of the stars on the maps are from circa 1730. This map was in Atlas Coelestis a collaboration between Homann and Doppelmayr. Johann Gabriel Doppelmayr (1677-1750) was an astronomer, cartographer, and a professor of mathematics from Nuremberg. In good condition with minor wear along the original centerfold and minor foxing at places. Johann Baptist Homann (1664-1724) was a renowned German mapmaker of the late 17th and early 18th century, including being geographer to the Holy Roman Emperor. His business was carried on through the 18th century by the Homann Heirs, also prolific and popular mapmakers.
