Brooklyn, NY: 1987.
Exceptional signed catalog brochure from the artist's lifetime achievement exhibition tour at the Brooklyn Museum, October 2 - November 30, 1987; a major retrospective celebrating the creative genius of Jacob Lawrence's art. Each page of this four-color lithograph catalog measures 11 x 7.5 inches and opens accordion-style to create six separate pages of biographical data with illustrations. Boldly signed on the cover "Jacob Lawrence 10/1/87" (one day before this exhibit opened to the public) directly above a reproduction of his painting Bread, Fish, Fruit, 1985 -- an extraordinary item that was made possible by a grant from the IBM Corporation with additional support provided by the National Endowment for the Arts. Boldly signed with outstanding contrast; very good(+) condition.
African-American artist who coined the word "Dynamic Cubism" in describing his style of painting epic narratives of African-American history.
