French military officer who distinguished himself in Bonaparte's 1796 - 1797 Italian campaign. He later fought in Spain during the Peninsular War and later commanded a division in Russia. During the Hundred Day War he was tasked with stopping Napoleon's march near Grenoble, but his troops went over to the ex-emperor causing him a humiliating defeat at the hands of his former mentor.
