I have seen the author since my return to America, who seemed greatly pleased when I repeated to him the terms of endearment in which you spoke of him." Accompanied by an autographed letter signed, 1 page, 5.25 x 3.5 inches, New York, Fitz-Green Halleck (1790 - 1867) August 8, 1850, in full: "I hasten to avail myself of the honor allowed me by your note of the 5th, and am highly flattered that you place my name among the cherished in your organization." Mounting remnants on the back of the first letter; otherwise both items are in fine condition.
