Original poster. Color lithograph. 27.27 x 20.25 inches.

It features a monumental Red Cross nurse cradling a wounded soldier on a stretcher. Evoking Michelangelo's Pieta where Mary holds the baby Jesus, this poster proved to be highly effective. While men signed up to fight at the front, women were encouraged to help the war efforts in supporting roles. This poster reportedly encouraged millions of Americans to join the Red Cross.
