War-date Autographed Letter Signed including a rare example of his father's handwriting

Buffalo, NY: 1863.

1 page, on 7.75 x 5-inch lined gatefold stationary, Buffalo, New York, June 18, 1863, to the Hon. Hilared Hall, in full: "My Dear Sir, In looking over my Father's papers to day, I found the enclosed Memorandum in his handwriting. Respectfully yours, Millard Fillmore." Inside the gatefold Fillmore has attached a 2.25 x 7.5-inch Autograph Document (unsigned), in full: "Benjamin Harwood the first Child born in Bennington (Vt) January 12th 1762. The first Families moved to Bennington June the 18th 1761." Nathaniel Fillmore (1771 - 1863) was an American farmer who originally settled in Vermont but was lured to New York State by land agents offering extensive tracts. Through faulty surveying, his original parcels were confiscated or reassigned, forcing him to work the soil for landlords and taking their charity to survive. Provenance: Mary Benjamin Autographs. Several folds plus light staining along the left margin, but still in very good condition.

Thirteenth President of the United States.
