In 1790, the Viceroy of Buenos Aires was concerned about Portuguese settlements in the western territory of Paraguay. He sponsored this expedition on the Paraguay River to establish the border between Paraguay and Brazil. The expedition was headed by Captain Martin Boneo and the pilot of the ship was Ignacio de Pasos.
