Unusual Autographed Letter Signed to his Son

Washington, D.C. 1855.

1 page, 9.25 x 7.5 inches, Washington, D.C., May 10, 1855, providing his son Edward with his autograph but reminding him of his reluctance in complying with such requests, in full: "My dear Son, Sam says you want my autograph. I can not conceive for what purpose you desire it -- however, contrary to my usual custom in such cases, I send it. Here it is." Boldly signed with a ridiculously large signature: "Peter Force." Natural folds; small reinforcement on the back but still in near fine condition.

American historian, author, and politician best known for his work "American Archives," a nine-volume index of the history of the United States Colonies, covering the years 1774 - 1776. In 1843 he reprinted the W.J. Stone Declaration of Independence on rice paper.
