Croquis Plate 57
Paris: Christian Dior, 1975.
Ink, watercolor and gouache on xerograph. Fabric swatch attached with staples, handwritten note directly on sheet. Sheet measures 13" x 9".
This original croquis from the designer Christian Dior features a dress from the Summer 1975 collection. This croquis was made from a xerograph of an original drawing, which was then hand-colored with ink, watercolor, and gouache. The design shows a long yellow dress with a matching cape and a deep neckline. Five swatches of the appropriate fabrics--green, yellow, red, blue, and lime muslin, are stapled to the sheet. These sketches were produced in a limited quantity and presented to potential clients in attendance at the Paris Couture shows held by Dior in the spring and fall of each year. This example is in good condition and makes a wonderful document for any lover of fashion.
