Paris: Christian Dior, 1975.
Ink, watercolor and gouache on xerograph. Fabric swatch attached with staples. Sheet measures 13" x 9".
This original croquis from the designer Christian Dior features a dress from the Summer 1975 collection. This croquis was made from a xerograph of an original drawing, which was then hand-colored with ink, watercolor, and gouache. The design shows a long white layered dress with fringes and a bow detail at the collar. A swatch of the appropriate fabric, white muslin featuring white fringes, is stapled to the sheet. These sketches were produced in a limited quantity and presented to potential clients in attendance at the Paris Couture shows held by Dior in the spring and fall of each year. This example is in good condition and makes a wonderful document for any lover of fashion.
