Paris: Christian Dior, 1973.
Ink, watercolor and gouache on xerograph. Fabric swatch attached with staples. Sheet measures 13" x 9".
This original croquis from the designer Christian Dior features a dress from the Winter 1973/74 collection. This croquis was made from a xerograph of an original drawing, which was then hand-colored with ink, watercolor, and gouache. The design shows two views of a long black dress with an elegant lace bodice and flowing pleated muslin skirt, as well as a view of an accompanying black jacket. Swatches of the appropriate fabrics, black lace and black muslin, are stapled to the sheet. These sketches were produced in a limited quantity and presented to potential clients in attendance at the Paris Couture shows held by Dior in the spring and fall of each year. This example is in good condition and makes a wonderful document for any lover of fashion.
