Carleton & Co., 1879.
96 (unnumbered) pages of humorous color lithographs. Each illustration has an alternate picture when an illustrated extra flap (about 1 / 3 of a page wide preceeding the page) opens, completing the picture. In the bottom margin is the beginning of a rhyme. When the flap is lifted, the completed picture is revealed along with the rest of the rhyme. The verso of each leaf contains a complete poem. Small 8vo, original pictorial blue cloth, stamped in gold and black. Covers worn, one small chip on an inner plate margin. Occasional small marginal stains, and some signatures partially loose. Otherwise, the illustrations, some in one color and others in two or three colors, are bright. N.p: G. W. Carleton & Co., Publishers; Donaldson Brothers, Designers & Printers, 1879.
Contains well known nursery rhymes like Jack and Jill, Little Miss Muffet, Hush-A-Bye Baby, Old Mother Hubbard, mostly charming, but some quite morbid, as well as some distastefully racist caricatures and rhymes.
