The cutter Genesta featured in this Currier & Ives lithograph was the unsuccessful English competitor in the 1885 America's Cup against the American yacht, Puritan. Currier & Ives called themselves the "Printmakers to the People" and they produced thousands of images that chronicled the growth of the United States. Founded in 1834, Currier & Ives produced high quality lithographs until the business closed in 1907. The piece has been expertly restored.
