Jeff's Double Quick. The last groans of the Confederacy: "Jeff's War Hoops"
Philadelphia: 1865.
Sheet music. Cover image measures 12 x 8". Sheet measures 14 x 10.5". 6 pages.
This is a first publication of this highly sought after sheet music which depicts Confederate president Jefferson Davis at the time of his capture, clad in women's clothing and holding a wooden pail. He is discovered by Sgt. Benjamin D. Pritchard of the Fourth Michigan Cavalry, who proceeds to raise Davis's skirt, revealing a pair of Confederate riding boots. Varina Davis protests in her husband's defense, stating "it's only my mother." Removed from a folio songbook, the cover has no prinetd music on the verso which makes it an ideal item to be framed. The booklet as a whole is in overall very good condition. As with most surviving copies, it was separated from the music pages and has minor toning at the borders. The music sheets have a very light damp stain at the top border which barely detracts.
