Controversial Typed Letter Signed

New York: 1949.

1 page, 10.5 x 7.25 inches, written on personal letterhead in New York City, July 9, 1949, while campaigning for a seat on the United States Senate, to former United States Supreme Court Justice Owen J. Roberts, in full: "I take pleasure in sending you herewith a check for $250, as a contribution to the Atlantic Union Committee." Several folds; otherwise fine.

Lehman was one of the founders of the Lehman Brothers Investment Banking firm and powerful United States politician. The Atlantic Union Committee became the primary organization in America supporting NATO and is arguably a precursor to that organization, eventually being absorbed within its charter. Lehman was elected to the United States Senate four months after this letter was written and was seated on Jan. 9, 1950.
