From his camp, Fort Conger on Ellesmere Island, Greely discovered Lake Hazen and Greely Fjord. He reached the farthest north point yet at 83 degrees, 24'. Relief ships failed to reach Fort Conger so in 1883 Greely travelled south to Cape Sabine where he wintered. By the time a relief ship arrived in 1884, only Greely and six others were alive from the original 25-man expedition. Eberstadt 105:13. A tight, bright set.
