Item #217994 Inscribed Vintage Photograph. Ruth BROWN, 1928 - 2006.

Inscribed Vintage Photograph

New York: 1953.

9.75 x 8 inches, New York, no date, circa 1953 -- a scarce vintage photo taken by James J. Kriegmann with a "Shaw Artists, 565 Fifth Ave. N.Y.C." imprint on the lower right. Inscribed on the left side: "To Charles + Dorothy, Love + Thank you + Always, Ruth Brown." This is one of the earliest Ruth Brown images photographed by Kriegsmann. The top white margin has been removed, leaving a rough edge; two faint creases in the bottom border. Very good(-) condition.

American R&B singer discovered by Cab Calloway. She had a series of hits in the early 1950s including "So Long "Teardrops from my eyes" and "(Mama) He Treats Your Daughter Mean." For those contributions, Atlantic Records became known as "The house that Ruth built."
