Beautifully colored branch from a type of pala, a large tropical tree. The name of the speciman is repeated Malabarese, Latin, Sanskrit and Arabic. Some scattered foxing. Kutaja is a medicinal plant from India and has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-malarial effects.Hendrik Adriaan van Rheede tot Draackenstein (1636-1691) was commander of Malabar and was responsible for compiling the "Hortus Malabaricus", a major publication of the flora and medicinal use of plants, which took 30 years to complete.
