Smith, authorizing John Thompson and Co. to trade with the Sioux Indians confined to the Standing Rock Reservation. In part: "Enclosed is a (copy of) license granted to John Thompson & Co. to trade with the Blackfoot, Uncpapa, Upper & Lower Yanktonais tribes of Indians for one year from June 22nd, 1877..." Includes a tiny photograph tin of John Q. Smith, blackened on the left corner. Two punch holes and a stain in the left margin; slight tears along the natural folds. Good condition.
