A classic on the process of osteogenesis, and one of Haller's principal physiological works. In this work he points out that the formation of bones begins not from the periosteum but immediately from the soft cartilaginous tissues, from tissues which enter through the foramina nutritia, and from those tissues which surround the primordial nuclea of ossification which he discovered. Haller was the master physiologist of his time, and one of the leading researchers of the 18th century, as well as the founder of medical and scientific bibliography. Blake p. 195.
