This warm and personal handwritten letter of condolence was sent to the wife of a friend and fellow lawyer, in part: "...Over the years of work I shared with Herman I came to feel that I had found a friend I admired and whose career in the law was one every young lawyer could look to for inspiration. His was a truly dedicated life for his talents could have brought him a large material wealth had that been his concern. But his deep love for his fellow men--good, bad and indifferent--took him to the peak of his chosen field. He was rightly considered the 'Dean' of all Public Defenders in this country..."
