Second Edition. Uncommon. Dodd (1729-1777), minister and noted forger, had a meteoric early rise in his career, eventually becoming Court Chaplain. However, having incurred a great many debts from living "the good life" of Hannover Square, his name was struck from the list of Chaplains. He was arrested, imprisoned and hanged for forging the name of his chief pupil, Lord Chesterfield, on a note for 4200 pounds. Though many including Dr. Johnson, petitioned for clemency for Dodd, he was finally hanged. Previous owner's name on title page.
