Gottingen: 1780. hardcover. Engr. t.p. vignette. 528pp. 8vo, original tree calf; rubbed, joints worn; foxed. Gottingae: Apud Viduam Abr. Vandenhoeck, 1780.
A later edition of the work first published in 1747, by one of the greatest physiologists of all time and the founder of medical bibliography. Written to replace as a physiology text his outdated transcripts of Boerhaave's Institutiones medicae, this work "enjoyed great popularity for many years." (--D.S.B.) It includes his resonance theory similar to that propounded a century later by Helmholtz. (G/M 585, first ed.).
