2 pages (front and back), 10.75 x 8.25 inches, Mexico City, December 8, 1847. In this letter signed "D.R." to his wife, Ruggles laments the loss of letters she has sent him, mentioning he has sent her an account of various battles, and bemoaning his lack of recognition by his superiors, in part: "...They were all very full of detailed battles and stirring events...The praises bestowed on others where my name was not mentioned...No officer in the army did more than I have done or distinguished himself more than I have at Chirumbusco, San Antonio, Moline del Rey, say nothing of former affairs for which I got little praise...Many of those have been praised for what they have not done...Maj. Scott neglected mentioning me..." Several folds and creases; very good(-) condition.
