Short slim 4to (8.75 x 6 inches), bound in old calf with gilt spine, worn but sound; generally clean but some light staining on fore-edge margins of some pages; armorial bookplate (John Stuart, the 3rd Earl of Bute?). A posthumously published collection of scientific papers by an Italian mathematician and friend of the famous astronomer Eustachio Manfredi. In addition to twelve essays on mathematics, astronomy, and scientific instruments, including his important contribution to the improvement of Guillaume Amontons' air thermometer, the work also includes astronomical observations made by the two friends during 1697-1702.
