1863. unbound. 3 x 5.5-inch envelope affixed with a Scott# 73 2c Andrew Jackson stamp, addressed by Barnard to his friend Dr. John William Draper (1811 - 1882), who was an American scientist, chemist, historian, and pioneer photographer, credited with taking the first image of a female's face in 1839. Draper was also the founder of NYU Medical School. Written on the envelope is: "Prof. John W. Draper, University of New York, Washington Square, New York." Draper has docketed the envelope "Gen. Barnard" -- a wonderful association piece considering the fact that Draper is rare in any form. No date, circa 1863. Very good(+) condition.
