Author was a clerk in the treasurer's office of the Vermont Central Railroad Company. In this pamphlet, Seymour accused the president of the railroad, Charles Paine, of keeping a second set of books that the treasurer had no access to. Seymour also charged that the Paine was using company funds for Paine's own use. Paine was a former governor of Vermont. The railroad went into receivership in 1852.
