Author was a private in Company D of the Ninth Regiment, New York State Militia. He was wounded at the Battle of Antietam. The Ninth Regiment fought mostly in Virginia, including the battles of Harpers Ferry, Second Bull Run, First Fredericksburg, and Chancellorsville. The Ninth Regiment also fought at Gettysburg. The last 48pp. list the name and rank of the members of the Ninth Regiment and if they died in battle or if they were discharged.
