1917. unbound. Exceptional real-life photograph postcard, reduced to 3.5 x 3 inches, depicting a full-figured Serao at the shoreline of a beach, fully covered from head to toe (except her face), holding an umbrella. Next to her is a very young Francesca Bertini, who has also signed her name in full. No place, July (written in Italian as "Luglio") 1917. Though this image is small, it captures great detail including people swimming on what was obviously a sweltering July day. Edges unevenly trimmed; mounting remnants on the back. Very good condition.
Greek-born Italian journalist and novelist, who rarely signed photographs do to issues she had with her self esteem. She was the founder of "Il Mattino" -- the most important and most widely read daily paper of southern Italy.
