Barrett, attempting desperately to sell his sister's autograph collection, in part: "For the sake of my only sister, who sorely needs $1000 she asks for her collection, I am willing to part with my own prized treasures including: my father's sketches; my set of autographs of the great explorers of Africa. They were all my personal friends. I command you to your reading Stanley's letter from Ujiji, and my Charles Darwin letter. To meet my sisters need I will sell the whole lot for $1150..."
