American jurist and Rear Admiral in the United States Navy during World War ll. He is best remembered as the Appellate Attorney for Saco and Vanzetti and as a presiding judge at several of the subsequent Nuremberg Trials, including those of Field Marshall Milch and Oswald Pohl. He was later a powerful witness in Jerusalem against Adolf Eichmann.
