Paris: Christian Dior, 1976.
Ink, watercolor and gouache on xerograph. Fabric swatches attached with staples. Sheet measures 12 1/2" x 8 7/8".
This original croquis from the designer Christian Dior features the pieces of an outfit from the Autumn/Winter 1976-77 collection, when the house was under designer Marc Bohan. This croquis was made from a xerograph of an original drawing, which was then hand-colored with ink, watercolor, and gouache. The design shows a long shirtdress with a deep neckline and matching scarf. Two patterned fabric swatches are attached to the sheet, one in shades of brown and one in shades of blue. A black-and-white photograph is also attached that shows the dress being modeled, revealing the flow created by the front slit in the skirt. These sketches were produced in a limited quantity and presented to potential clients in attendance at the Paris Couture shows held by Dior in the spring and fall of each year. This example is in good condition and makes a wonderful document for any lover of fashion.
