Paris: Christian Dior, 1976. Ink, watercolor and gouache on xerograph. Fabric swatch attached with staples. Sheets measures 12 1/2" x 8 7/8"each.
This set of original croquis from the designer Christian Dior features the pieces of an outfit from the Spring/Summer 1976 collection, when the house was under designer Marc Bohan. This croquis was made from a xerograph of an original drawing, which was then hand-colored with ink, watercolor, and gouache. The design shows a dress with a pleated skirt and a coordinating jacket with front pockets. A swatch of the appropriate fabric, a very retro pattern of orange, brown, and green, is stapled to the sheet. These sketches were produced in a limited quantity and presented to potential clients in attendance at the Paris Couture shows held by Dior in the spring and fall of each year. This example is in good condition and makes a wonderful document for any lover of fashion.
