Dubuque: 1862. unbound. Very scarce Union patriotic cover with stamp-pad imprint of Benjamin Franklin's drawing and slogan "Unite or Die." Postmarked in Dubuque, Iowa, on April 26 with a lightly cancelled 3c George Washington (A-25). Franklin's imprint was most likely used starting in 1861 and no later than June 20, 1863, the day West Virginia was admitted into the Union. Very good condition.
