Item #243437 Autographed Free-Frank Cover. Henry OSBORNE.

Autographed Free-Frank Cover

1785.

2.75 x 4.25 inches, no place, no date, circa 1785. Addressed to Thomas McCall, Surveyor General at Augusta [Georgia], and signed "Henry Osborne, Esquire." Browning along the vertical fold; otherwise evenly toned and in very good condition. Note: Osborne is rare due to the fact that he never completed the trek back to Pennsylvania to formally take his seat in the Continental Congress. He did sign the election ballots, making his membership in the Congress "official."

American Revolutionary War patriot and member of the Continental Congress from Georgia who holds the dubious distinction of having been impeached on two different occasions, due to two very different instances of misconduct. Osborne, though, holding the offices of Commissioner of Indian Affairs, Chief Justice of Georgia, and Judge Advocate of the Pennsylvania Militia, remains one of the most elusive signatures for those attempting to complete a collection of the members of the Continental Congress.
