Jefferson City, Ohio: 1868. unbound. 1 page, 8 x 5 inches, Jefferson City, Ohio, August 8, 1868, written just five months after the shock that he would not be President of the United States, in part: "...I thank you very much for advancing the money to pay the draft. I expected the draft would be sent me [sic] here, if I should not be in Washington at the time it arrived here. I fear on that account it may have occasioned some trouble to my son..." Note: as Senator pro-tempore, Wade would have become the next President of the United States had Andrew Johnson been convicted. Instead, he became financially ruined and lost reelection to his Ohio Senate seat. Mounting remnants on verso; otherwise very good condition.
United States Senator and Radical Republican who fiercely led the charge for the impeachment of President Andrew Johnson.
