Antwerp: Jan Bellere, 1560.
307 pages + 10 page index. 12mo. Roman & italic type, prelims & shoulder notes in italic, woodcut initials & Bellere title device, early blind tooled calf (nicely rebacked and restored), old ms. title on fore edge. Antwerp: Jan Bellere, 1560. First Edition. A lovely, very good (+) copy.
First Edition of this rich manuscript of 9th century texts. Lazius' recension of ten separate pieces directly reflects the scrambled state of the exemplar, now lost, which jumbled together these misidentified or anonymous writings by Rabanus Maurus, Remigius of Auxerre, Alcuin and Hildebert of LeMans. All but one of these works (i.e. Hildebert, Paris 1548) are published here for the first time, including the important Expositio Missae of Remigius. This rare printed version is our only source for the text variants given by Lazius, who discovered this manuscript, during his extensive tour of German monastery and convent libraries in 1549.
