This detailed engraving of eighteenth-century Europe, from a plate dated 1795, provides both geographical and historical information. Statistical tables on the left and right of the map list information about major European countries. 72 period naval flags run along the bottom of southern sheet, including a very early depiction of the American flag, with stripes and thirteen stars, at the far right. A scale on the lower sheet also lists the different systems of measure in use at the time, including British, German, Turkish, and geographical miles, Marine and Common French Leagues, and Russian Verst. The map is in good condition with minor aging and chipping along the edges.
