London: 1663. Map. Uncolored engraving. Image measures 13.25" x 16.50"
Rare map of the Americas. Anae Seile had the map engraved by Robert Vaughan for a new edition of Peter Heylin's "Cosmographie" when she published the third edition of his work. No mention of the Great Lakes and the Hudson River is called Hudson's Bay. Two sailing ships, two sea monsters and a rendering of a smoke house in Brazil decorate this unusual map. The only known 17th century map by a woman. Full margins, some foxing near Arctic Circle and light stains in the Pacific Ocean. Japanese tissue hinges provided on verso.
