1 page, 8.25 x 6.75 inches, New York, 1883 -- an exceedingly rare, ornate, autographed musical quotation, signed and consisting of three bars of Schumann's Cello Concerto, beautifully written and centered. Signed: "F. K. E. Giese New York May. 19. 1883." Rare and in near fine condition.
German-born cellist and son of the legendary teacher and soloist Joseph Giese. Fritz immigrated to the United States at age 19 and was considered one of the finest Cellist players in America, especially when performing with the Kneisel Quartet in the 1880s. Unfortunately he suffered from severe alcoholism and drank himself to death in Boston, Massachusetts, at the age of 37.
